Outdoor Programs for Seniors
Outdoor Programs for Seniors engages adults 55+ in outdoor activities to promote the health benefits of being active in nature. Burlington Recreation and Parks has teamed up with Alamance County Recreation and Parks to provide experienced guides and a diverse program offering. All participants must have a medical clearance and liability waiver & release completed for the current year before participating. PLAY: PICKLEBALL & CORNHOLE - PART 1
January 11 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Meet at Fairchild Community Center - 827 S Graham Hopedale Rd, Burlington, NC 27217. Introduction (or reintroduction) to corn hole and pickle ball. Try these super fun sports with other beginners. Come try something a little different! Register by 1/9.
SPEAKER: BUILDING & HIKING THE MST

Meet at the Kernodle Senior Center - 1535 S. Mebane St. Burlington NC 27215. Listen to Greg Yahn, Mountain to Sea thru hiker and volunteer trail builder, share his experience with the on the trail. Register by 1/13.
January 25 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Meet at Kernodle Senior Center - 1535 S. Mebane St. Burlington NC 27215. Watch four young Texans hatch an outrageous plot to adopt, train and ride wild mustangs 3000 miles from the Mexican border to Canada through the wildest terrain of the West. Register by 1/24.
FITNESS: STRETCHING & YOGA FOR HIKERS
January 30 from 11:00 am - 12:00 noon
Meet at the Kernodle Senior Center - 1535 S. Mebane St. Burlington NC 27215. Amanda Sommer will lead a session on stretching and yoga for hikers. The class will introduce some good exercises to warming and keeping your muscles loose before, during and after a hike. Most exercises will be standing, but bring a yoga mat if have one. Register by 1/26. Optional lunch on your own at Mosca’s after the class.

Meet at Kernodle Senior Center - 1535 S. Mebane St. Burlington NC 27215. Southbounders is about a young woman who attempts to “thru-hike” the Appalachian Trail, the 2,170 mile footpath wandering the length of the Atlantic seaboard from Maine to Georgia. Register by 2/6.

Come and practice your skills and have fun at this session. If you didn’t come to Part 1 – don’t worry! Come on and we’ll teach you the basics. Register by 2/13.
HIKE: SHALLOW FORD NATURAL AREA TRAIL

Meet at Shallow Ford Natural Area - 1955 Gerringer Mill Rd. Burlington, NC 27217. Hike about 3 miles on rolling, natural surface trails. Hiking stick(s) recommended. Register by 2/17.
HIKE: LAKESIDE TRAIL - LAKE CAMMACK
February 28 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Meet at Lake Cammack - 4790 Union Ridge Rd. Burlington, NC 27217. Look for Bald Eagles & other waterfowl as we hike out-and-back along the shore. Hike is about 2 miles on rolling, natural surface trail. Great hike for beginners. Register by 2/24.
