Every December the Burlington Police Department participates in a program called Shop with a Cop. Members of the BPD, both staff and civilian, take 75 underprivileged children shopping for their Christmas gifts at a local Walmart. The department spends $100 on each child and gives the family of that child a week's worth of groceries. We also take elderly citizens in the community that live alone a week's worth of groceries and spend some time with them.
This program is made possible entirely from sponsorships and donations from the community. We wish to ensure every child has gifts, each family has food, and no one feels alone for the holidays.
