National Night Out (NNO) is held annually on the first Tuesday in August. The NNO Campaign is comprised of citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 9,700 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
The National Night Out (NNO) Campaign is multi-functional.
NNO is designed to:
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
Generate support for and participate in local anti-crime programs.
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are fighting back.
Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities towns and neighborhoods are coming together to celebrate NNO with a variety of events and activities such as block parties, cookouts and visits from local police.
NNO has proven to be an enjoyable, effective and inexpensive tool to promote a police-community partnership in our fight for a safer nation.
